In response to COVID-19, and to mitigate risks of a potential outbreak, the local government in Chin State conducted risk assessments and followed national guidelines by imposing strict travel restrictions. In doing so, this caused socio-economic consequences, as it has across the world, critically affecting vulnerable populations and steepening their descent into poverty.
Daw Daw Uh, a 65 year old widow and mother of two from Lungngo village, depended solely on her 18 year old son’s income working as a migrant worker in China to make ends meet. With the onset of COVID-19 in December 2019, Daw Daw Uh’s son was forced to return home, and so ended their families main source of income.
With funds no longer coming in, Daw Daw Uh’s family suffered. “We are running out of rice, wondering what we should do next,” said Daw Daw Uh.
In response, the Australian AID and ADRA Australia funded PRICE project, reallocated funds to carry out an emergency distribution targeted at vulnerable families like Daw Daw Uh’s.
Lungngo is the largest village of 300 households targeted in the PRICE project, and where one of ADRA Myanmar’s sub offices is located deep in the Chin Hills. Lungngo village members formed a task force comprised of; youth, the Village Administration Committee, Police Force, Officials from the Rural Health Department, and Religious Leaders (Pastors) in order to respond to COVID-19.
Through this collaboration between ADRA Myanmar and the local task force, food rations of rice, hygiene kits of; hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, hand washing soap, and hand washing basins, and medical supplies of thermometer’s, were distributed to 17 villages. COVID-19 awareness raising materials were also erected in public areas and pamphlets were provided on prevention measures and the importance of hand washing.
In addition, the task force assigned a regulator at village entrances to ensure those entering wash their hands with the supplied soap and hand basin, and check temperatures with the thermometer.
“Thank you to God for ADRA’s support with our much needed rations”, commented 65 year old Daw Daw Uh.
At the time of reporting this story, there had been no COVID-19 cases reported in the area.

ယင်းသို့ကန့်သတ်မှုများသည် လူမှုစီးပွားအကျိုးသက်ရောက်မှုများကိုဖြစ်ပေါ်စေခဲ့ပြီး ထိခိုက်လွယ်သော ဆင်းရဲနွမ်းပါးသောလူအများအပေါ်တွင်လည်း များစွာအကျိုးသက်ရောက်စေခဲ့သည်။
ချင်းပြည်နယ်၊ လုံးငိုးကျေးရွာမှ မုဆိုးမတစ်ဦးလည်းဖြစ်သူ အသက် ၆၅ နှစ်အရွယ် ဒေါ်ဒေါ်အဲသည် စားဝတ်နေရေးအတွက် တရုတ်နိုင်ငံတွင်ရွှေ့ပြောင်းအလုပ်သမားအဖြစ် အလုပ်လုပ်ကိုင်နေသော အသက် ၁၈ နှစ်အရွယ် သားဖြစ်သူ၏ ဝင်ငွေကိုအဓိကမှီခိုနေရသည်လည်းဖြစ်သည်။ ၂၀၁၉ ခုနှစ်၊ ဒီဇင်ဘာလတွင် ကိုရိုနာဗိုင်းရပ်စ်စတင်ဖြစ်ပွားခဲ့ရာ သူမ၏သားဖြစ်သူကို အလုပ်မှ ရပ်ရွာနေအိမ်သို့ပြန်ရန် အတင်းအကျပ်စေခိုင်းခဲ့သဖြင့် မိသားစုအတွက် အဓိကဝင်ငွေရရှိမှုလမ်းကြောင်းမှာ ပြတ်တောက်ခဲ့ရသည်။ ယင်းအခြေအနေကြောင့် ဒေါ်ဒေါ်မဲမိသားစုအနေဖြင့် စားဝတ်နေရေးဒုက္ခနှင့် ကြုံတွေ့ခဲ့ရသည်။

ယင်းအချိန်တွင် Australian AID နှင့် ADRA Australia တို့က ရန်ပုံငွေထောက်ပံ့ထားသော PRICE စီမံကိန်းမှာလည်း ဒေါ်ဒေါ်အဲကဲသို့ထိခိုက်လွယ်သော အိမ်ထောင်စုများကို အရေးပေါ်စားနပ်ရိက္ခာ အထောက်အပံ့များ ဖြန့်ဝေနိုင်ရန်အတွက် စီမံကိန်းရန်ပုံငွေများကို ပြန်လည်ခွဲဝေချထားခဲ့သည်။
လုံးငိုးကျေးရွာသည် PRICE စီမံကိန်းတွင် အဓိကရည်ရွယ်ထားသော ကျေးရွာများအနက်မှ အိမ်ထောင်စု ၃၀၀ ခန့်ရှိသော ကျေးရွာကြီးတစ်ခုဖြစ်ပြီး ADRA Myanmar ၏ ရုံးခွဲများအနက် ချင်းတောင်ပေါ်တည်ရှိသည့် နေရာတစ်ခုလည်းဖြစ်သည်။

“လိုအပ်နေတဲ့ စားနပ်ရိက္ခာကို ADRA အနေနနဲ့ အခုလိုထောက်ပံ့တဲ့အတွက် ဘုရားသခင်ကိုလည်း ကျေးဇူးတင်ပါတယ်” ဟု အသက် ၆၅ နှစ်အရွယ် ဒေါ်ဒေါ်အဲက ဆိုလေသည်။
