The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and ADRA Czech Republic funded ELS2 ‘Education and Livelihood Support II’ project, recently constructed a causeway near Antar Village in Magway Region through the cooperation of the local community.
The causeway, 90 ft in length, 24ft wide and 2.4ft high, is estimated to hold a minimum capacity of 1,000,000 gallons of water. With that volume of water, the causeway is able to sustain 60 households with readily available water for as long as 4 months during the summer months.

Water scarcity is prevalent in the region, particularly during summer months spanning March to June. Water sources vary from season to season from nearby streams and water collected with buckets from roofs during monsoon season. In summer when water shortages are at their gravest, villagers depended largely on external small-scale drinking water provided by donors from nearby towns.
Traditionally, the task of fetching water from nearby streams falls on the shoulders of women, young girls and children, while men undertake the other family responsibilities.
With the completion of Antar causeway, wasy access to fresh water has increased for village residents, releasing the burden from women, girls, and children in having to walk long distances to fetch water each day. Of the 268 residents in Antar village, 76 are women, and 72 are school-aged children. The Antar causeway has significantly contributed to lessening duties for the female population so they may spend more time on family duties and school-aged children have more time to invest in their education.

အဆိုပါ Causeway သည် အရှည်ပေ ၉၀ ၊ အကျယ် ၂၄ ပေ နှင့် ၂ ဒသမ ၄ ပေအမြင့်ရှိပြီး အနည်းဆုံး ရေဂါလန် ၁,၀၀၀,၀၀၀ အထိ သိုလှောင်ထိန်းသိမ်းနိုင်မည်ဖြစ်သည်။ အဆိုပါရေပမာဏသည် နွေရာသီပင်ဖြစ်လင့်ကစား ကျေးရွာမှ အိမ်ထောင်စုပေါင်း ၆၀ ကို လေးလကြာသည်အထိ ရေထောက်ပံ့ ပေးနိုင်သည်လည်းဖြစ်သည်။
ယင်းဒေသတွင် အထူးသဖြင့် နွေရာသီကာလအတွင်း ရေရှားပါးပြတ်လပ်မှုများ ဖြစ်ပေါ်လေ့ရှိသည်။ ရေရှားပါးမှုကြောင့် အနီးဝန်းကျင်ရှိ စမ်းချောင်းများနှင့် မိုးရာသီကာလအတွင်း ခံယူထားသော မိုးရေတို့ကိုသာ အဓိကအားထားနေရသည်။ နွေရာသီတွင်လည်း အဆိုးရွားဆုံးရေပြတ်လပ်မှုများကြောင့် ရွာသားများသည် အနီးဝန်းကျင်ရှိ မြို့များမှ အလှူရှင်များလာရောက်လှူဒါန်းသော သောက်သုံးရေကိုသာ အဓိကအားထား မှီခိုခဲ့ရသည်ဖြစ်သည်။
အမျိုးသားများက ဝင်ငွေရှာခြင်းအစရှိသော မိသားစုတာဝန်များကို ထမ်းဆောင်နေချိန်တွင် အမျိုးသမီးများနှင့် ကလေးငယ်များသည် သောက်သုံးရေရရှိရေးအတွက် အနီးပတ်ဝန်းကျင်ရှိ စမ်းချောင်းများသို့ သွားရောက်၍ ခပ်ယူရခြင်းမှာလည်း အစဥ်အလာတစ်ခုပင်ဖြစ်နေသည်။
ယခုအခါ ရေသိုလှောင်ထိန်းသိမ်းနိုင်သော Causeway ကို တည်ဆောက်ပြီးစီးခဲ့သောအခါ ဒေသခံများအတွက် ရေချိုရရှိရန်မှာ လွယ်ကူလာသည်။ အမျိုးသမီးများနှင့် ကလေးငယ်များအနေဖြင့်လည်း ဝေးလံသောနေရာသို့ တကူးတကသွားရောက်ကာ ရေခပ်ရသည့် အခက်အခဲမှာလည်း လျော့နည်းသက်သာသွားခဲ့ရသည်ဖြစ်သည်။ အန်းတားကျေးရွာတွင် နေထိုင်သူ ၂၆၈ ဦးအနက် ၇၆ ဦးသည် အမျိုးသမီးများဖြစ်ပြီး ၇၂ ဦးသည် ကျောင်းနေ အရွယ်ကလေးများ ဖြစ်ကြသည်။ အဆိုပါ Causeway သည် အမျိုးသမီးများအတွက် ရေရှာဖွေရေး တာဝန်ဝတ္တရားများကို လျှော့ချရာတွင် များစွာအထောက်အကူပြုခဲ့ပြီး ၎င်းတို့အနေဖြင့်လည်း မိသားစုလုပ်ငန်းအတွက် အချိန်ပိုပေးနိုင်သည့်အပြင် ကလေးများအနေဖြင့်လည်း ၎င်းတို့၏ ပညာရေးအတွက် ရင်းနှီးမြှုပ်နှံရန် အချိန်ပိုရှိလာပြီဖြစ်သည်။
